I was thinking that apart of security in the streets and reduced amount of stress from driving for owners perspective would be the reduction of maintaining costs. The following points might help lifespan of self-driving cars and reduce the costs.

    1. A powerful electric engine, possibly soloar powered. (All EVs will be equipped with a solar power engine in the next decade)
    2. SSD parts (easily exchangeable)
    3. A self-repairing, self-correcting software, that is cars perform check-ups routinely and in case the car notices a possible problem "self-search" for a possible solution on the Internet and consequently adapts its behavior to avoid similar problems.
    4. Cars engine is never over-used or heavy loaded, that is engines could last for many years.

Good points. Technology already exists though, but the market is not ready yet. The old car industry is the most powerful industry out there. And these guys might just not be prepared and happy to sell self-changing SSD lidars. There is still a lot of money to be made from the old system.
